I just came back from dinner organized by the "Sociedad de Beneficiencia China" (roughly, the Chinese Charity Society?) and the Chinese Embassy, I believe. It was... interesting. The main purpose was to raise money for those who were affected by the earthquake. By the time mom and I were leaving, the event had raised over 150,000 dollars in just one night. That's awesome.
While events like this one are important to help unfortunate people, it is also interesting to observe how, willingly and/or unwillingly, people show "who's who" in the bunch. *shrugs* But anyway, what's relevant is that the event was for a good cause.
PS: Chinese ambassador is more soft-spoken than I expected. And he resembles an uncle of mine. O_o
